What do you really want?

Have you ever met someone who wanted something but didn’t know exactly what it was? I met a young lady last week, she said that she was looking for a job; I asked her what type of job she wanted, she looked at me and said, “Well, that’s the problem, I really don’t know”. If you’re not sure of what you want you would get mixed results. It’s like setting out on a journey to somewhere; you’ll never know when you have arrived. You need to be absolutely sure of what you want. If you are in a relationship, it’s either you want it to thrive or you want it to die, either way you have to be sure.

Being clear about what you want enables you paint a good picture. You think about it, you visualize it. And as you visualize it fuels you to act. If you’re in a job you hate, you can choose to stay there and keep hating the job, change your attitude about the job, or quit the job. You have to decide for yourself what it is that you want. Don’t be like a leaf blown by the wind and accept whatever lot you find. If you want to be successful, you have to really want it. When you want to be successful as badly as you want to breathe, then you’ll be successful.

Do not be on the fence when it involves decisions that can change your life. If you’re only kinda sure, then you’ll only kinda get the right thing. When you’re sure about what you want, believe that you already have it, even when you don’t see it, believe still.

Whatever you want in life, be sure. Be positive about it. Ask for it. And you will get it.

“But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubt is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind, for let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord”… James 1:6-7

What to do when you feel under the weather

Everyone hates being ill. It feels like your body is failing you. The worst part is that you probably still have things to do, and these things won’t just stop just because you’re not feeling right. That’s the reason most people ignore whatever their body is telling them about their health and forge ahead only to complicate things. Our bodies talk to us. It tells us when it needs food, when it needs to rest, when it needs attention. It’s true that we are not ruled by our bodies, but we need to learn not only to master our bodies, but also to listen to it.
When you feel ill, these are things I’ve found to help: Rest, hydrate, be positive, accept God’s healing. Use that period to rest yourself, do not push yourself past your limit to breaking point, it would only lengthen the recovery time and ruin your day. Rest your body and your mind. Hydrate yourself, Takes lots of fluids, water can be very therapeutic, it’ll help prevent dehydration which could lead to fatigue. And be positive; see it as an opportunity to give yourself some attention. Think positive things about your health. Being ill can really play with a person's mind. If you even try to Google your symptoms, Lord, the things that would come up can scare you to death. That's why I avoid checking it. You have to keep your spirits up no matter what. Be positive. See yourself getting better. And if you’re faced with a health problem that requires you take some medication, please take your meds. Don’t wait for someone to pin you down and force you to do the right things for yourself, take good care of yourself.
Being ill is not God’s plan for us. Sickness plays with our minds, makes us less productive, unhappy and vulnerable. Why would God want that for us? So, we need to know God’s plan for our health. Then we walk according to that plan. That doesn’t mean that the devil won’t tempt you with a little headache or flu or something even worse. When he does, defeat him by being positive and thankful to God still. Accept that good health is your inheritance from God and walk with that.

“By His stripes we are healed”… Isaiah 53:5b

How to Handle Suicidal thoughts

I came across a news today. A young rapper killed himself because his girlfriend left him. Some people called him horrible names, some sympathized. It reminded me of when I was much younger, when I was a teenager. Sometimes I’d feel alone, unimportant and so insignificant. And I’d ask myself, “Would I really be missed if I were gone?” I thought that life was too difficult, happiness was unattainable and maybe death was the answer. Like Bella in twilight said, “Death is easy, Living is hard”. At first it was just a thought, only a thought. But thoughts are so powerful. I started thinking of the best ways to die. I saw more reasons to die. I felt so alone. I felt like everything was screaming inside of me and yet I wasn’t being heard. But I was so fortunate to have a God who cares excessively for me. He was always there. And He got me through all that. He told me that He had a plan for me. And I got surrounded by positive people.  And now, I enjoy His joy
so much.

After I heard the news of the boy, I felt so heavy. He had posted the sequence of his thought right up to his death on twitter, and he apologized to his family. He words were so artistic; I could see that he was talented. But there is no talent and no work in the grave.

Suicide is borne out of selfishness, ingratitude, isolation and loss of hope. You need to understand that first. Life is a beautiful gift from God. And He intends that we share it. You and everyone around you get to benefit from your life. Just as you benefit from people, other people benefit from you too.  Imagine if Bill gates, Nelson Mandela or St. Paul had committed suicide, our lives would be different. We would have never come to see their greatness. They would have taken their potential and their gift with them. Maybe someone else would try to fill in their shoes, but it would never be the same. Your life is a gift. You get to decide how you wish to use it. Also, suicide is borne out of ingratitude. People with suicidal thoughts always seem to see their situation as unsolvable, as the worse it could possibly be. They look at the things they don’t have. They see lack, pain, injustice. They believe they have it worse off than anyone else. That makes them hate people. The satisfaction of gratitude is not for the one receiving it, but for the one giving it. Life can be tough, and you need to be tougher. I’ve seen people with terrible situations climb to great heights. You have every right to fight for your life, never give up on you.  Suicidal thoughts always go with isolation. The devil likes to isolate his targets. That way you’re removed from any external influences or anyone who can show you that they care. Some people feel so hopeless. Maybe someone just go diagnosed with cancer or something terrible, someone just lost a loved one or got fired.  When you lose hope, you see a future with no good in it. Sometimes you cannot even see a future. If you’re faced with such a situation, see the now. Look around you and find something to be hopeful for, it could be as simple as dinner, or even a call. Start with right now and tomorrow will get brighter. Never lose hope. Sometimes you have to hope against all the odds (Romans 4:18)

Right now as I write this I know that someone might be feeling so alone and so lost and insignificant in this big world. Maybe you just got your heart broken, don’t worry we’ve all had that and we’re still here, take my word for it, “it will heal”. But guess what, everyone has felt that way at some point. Things do get better, that’s if you decide to make it so. Life comes with its ups and downs, and you need to fight for your life and not throw in the towel. Taking your life would change the course of someone else’s.  You fill a vacuum in this world.  You are not alone, lots of people do care. And you can show care to people with similar plight.
So, this is what you do:

  • -          Understand that you are important and significant, the world needs your input

  • -          Be grateful for everything you have, good and bad. If you can read this right now, be grateful because it means you have eyes, and maybe a laptop or something, and electricity and hands to scroll the pages, and intelligence to find this blog. Wow!!! You have so much to be grateful for because I could go on.

  • -          Do not isolate yourself. Be around positive people. Surround yourself with happy people. People that care about you. There are some life sucking people out there, please avoid them like a plague.

  • -          Try to bring happiness to others the best way you can. Say nice things to people. Give a smile so freely whenever you can. Compliment people. Say please and thank you. Lend a helping hand whenever you can.

  • -          Think positive things about your life and you situation. Permit no negativity in your life. If you find yourself feeling like the world is about to end, pump your mind with the happiest thing you know. It could be a song, a friend, or something

  • -          Talk to someone about how you feel. Someone you trust. Someone who cares about you. Talking about it, even just saying it out sometimes is able to show you how terrible the idea is.
  • Acknowledge that your life is a gift from God, not an accident. And He does care so much about you. And He is always there for you. If you can’t see it, it’s because you have not acknowledged Him. Turn to Him, He will respond. He can help you. He was and still is my source of help. Life gets tough; it’s good to know that the toughest person is on your side. If you have any issues with God, settle it because you need Him to live.
  •  Finally, Live. Don’t just exist. Live your life. Explore your gifts. Eat good food, eat bad food and laugh about it. Go to school, learn. Jump when you feel like even when people are looking. Express the fullness of your life.  Enjoy life, ups and downs and all.

How to Start your day right

Have you ever had a day that everything just seemed to go so so wrong? Your toothbrush snaps, your coffee tastes like dirt, the traffic couldn't be more annoying.  Have you also had a day that you felt like the birds sang better songs, the trees were greener and smelt better, the traffic had a nice tune with it? We all have had both days. But I believe that the most crucial moment in a a day is the morning. Actually the first few minutes of it.
If you sleep through your alarm and are awoken by a rude noise, then jump out of bed saying "O my Gosh, I am so late". In that moment you automatically set the tune for the whole day, and you will feel rushed, unless something, or someone slows you down. If you wake up in the morning and feel terrible and weighed down. Your day will feel terrible and weighed down. And if you wake up feeling positive and excited about the day, your day will respond well.
So, what's the best way to start your day? Well, you start you day the night before. Before you go to bed, set your goals for the next day, think positively about your goals and about your day. Close your eyes, expect a beautiful day and a peaceful sleep and then go to sleep. When you wake up, the first words out of your mouth should be something positive. Don't say, "Is it morning already?" or "I wish I didn't have to go to work today". Say something positive. See it like a declaration into your day. I choose to say, "This is the day The Lord has made and I will rejoice and be glad in it" (Psalm 118:24). Also your first thoughts should be positive. Think about anything that puts a smile on your face. It could be a friend, something funny you saw a while back, something you are expecting that day or week. It doesn't matter what it is as long as it is positive and puts a smile on your face. You need to be thankful for the gift of another day, and purpose in your heart to make the most of it. After this go through you set goals for the day, say your prayers, and then get to your day. You can do whatever is routine for you after that; take a shower, brush your teeth, eat etc.
You see, how you wake up is important. Have you met someone so sour and then people say "He must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed"? Well, I think he must have. The first few moments of the day are so crucial, it sets the tone for the rest of the day.

How do you start your day?

Free Spirit

Freedom... Do you know what it means to be truly free. Some people think it means that you do not follow any rules, and you play by your own rules. But is that truly free? Have you ever felt free? In a time when we have work to do, spouses to take care of, children to take to school and feed, rent to pay and other things to pay for. It really feels like a lot of shackles right? But some people have these things, and even more and are still free spirits. How do you become free? Do you quit your job and then choose to ignore every consequence of your actions? That won't make you free, that would just make you irresponsible. But we all crave freedom, to have no weight on us, to be in a state where we feel like we are on a cloud with nothing to rain on our parade.

A truly free spirit is a spirit that is not controlled by the laws of this world. I don't mean the laws of the government, I mean the other laws of this world. The laws that work against you. The laws of failure, pain and every other law that tries to bring you down. True freedom come from God. He makes us truly free. Everyone must have order in their lives, if you don't, things will be chaotic. That is why people that choose to live according to "Their selfish rules" are chaotic. God gives us freedom. In fact He gave us freedom when Jesus was resurrected. A freedom that comes from a life in Him. And He guides us with His words so that we don't get hurt. He empowers us with His presence so that we don't get lost or taken advantage of.

Have you ever been given an amazing news, a news so good that you just wanted to dance, scream and cry at the same time. It is an amazing feeling. What if you felt that way everyday? What if every moment you felt like dancing and not caring who was watching? It would be amazing right? Well, that's how God intended we be. Free, excited, happy, positive regardless of the situations we faced, regardless of the responsibilities we had.
"Now The Lord is Spirit and where there is the Spirit of the Lord there is freedom".... 2 Corinthians 3:17
